2021 - 2022
Reading back through last year’s Year-In-Review has once again made me realize how much has changed in just a year…
Stating out with schoolwork, I knocked out another semester of engineering classes in the Fall, and as I’m writing this, starting out with my summer semester classes. For the first time in a while, I was able to choose a class I wanted to take! In order to fulfill one of my electives I’m taking Materials Selection and Design, which I hope will be interesting and help me to learn more about the array of materials available when designing projects in the future. Since last year I’ve continued my involvement in Combat Robotics, and in many ways expanded it. For the 2021 – 2022 year, I was a coach and technical advisor to the University of Cincinnati Battlebots Club, and UC seniors building Battlebots as their capstone projects. With my guidance, UC had its best performance ever at the Local Xtremebots competition, with our 4 robots taking home 1st place, 4th, and another top 16 position. I plan to continue to coach the UC teams and expand the Battlebots Club’s online presence and involvement with local events. |
The new robot I briefly spoke about in the “Rage in the Cage” event recap and last year’s Year-In-Review was finally completed! Kaleidoscope represents a huge step forward for myself as a competitor, being the first title sponsored robot I’ve ever built. In addition to this, Kaleidoscope brough myself and my team to the largest US based competition ever held, the March 2022 Norwalk Havoc Event. This event is a huge step up in professionalism and competition compared to the local events’ we’ve attended in the past. While Kaleidoscope didn’t take first place (2 and 2 isn’t bad though!), this event put my name on the map, and we plan to return later this year for another run at first place.
Since last year the CNC Bridgeport has been a massive success, both in capability and video performance. If I have time, I’d like to make another honors experience out of the 4th axis I’m gearing up to build for it this summer, which will be a huge boost in machining capabilities for myself. I always want to put my best work forward in my honors experiences, so we’ll see how this upcoming year pan’s out! |
