About MeMy name is Owen Cokley, class of 2024, majoring in mechanical engineering. I come from a family of hands-on workers and craftsmen. My pursuit towards a degree in mechanical engineering will simply be the latest tool I may use to take my projects to new heights.
In my free time, I build combat robots, vehicles, the occasional trebuchet, and much more. My mechanical experience isn’t just related to my hobbies either. I regularly work alongside my dad, who owns an electrical contracting company, and at a defense contractor here in Ohio, designing and integrating unique engineering solutions on a daily basis. I chose to attend UC mainly for their co-op program, not knowing anything about the UHP program (University Honors Program) heading in. Through the opportunities UHP provides, I hope to share my projects to a wider audience and meet others like myself while doing so. |
Combat RoboticsOne hobby of mine I've continued from high school is combat robotics. Since 2017, my 15lbs combat robot Razors Edge has consistently been a top performer in the field. As a three time regional champion, and placing 5th out of over 50 teams at the NRL national competition, Razors Edge is feared and recognized by many teams in today's circuit.
Alongside my placement at competitions, I've previously won the Xtremebots best engineered award, the Rage in the Cage best engineered award, the NRL innovation award, as well as a $500 award towards my high school's engineering program. Check out the RE Combat Robotics page on my website for more info on the robots I've built. The video below is from the Rage in the Cage Spring 2021 competition. |
